Happy Retirement Shirley Webb!

Happy Retirement to Shirley Webb!

WBOwebbFor nearly 40 years, our good friend Shirley Webb has been a leading advocate for the women in Jacksonville.  She helped found and was the executive director of the Hubbard House, University of North Florida’s Women’s Center and the Women’s Center of Jacksonville and this December she plans to retire.  “It’s been a lot of hard work. … A wild ride,” she said in a recent interview with the Florida Times-Union. “It seemed like a good time to have a transition happen. You have to pick your time.”

“She brings people together, identifies their individual strengths, inspires them to utilize those strengths and builds coalitions,” said Nina Waters, president of The Community Foundation of Northeast Florida in the Times-Union article.  “She has launched numerous projects, seen them through the difficult, financially precarious early years, and then, once they are well-established and self-sustaining, focused on new challenges.”

“She has been a leader in addressing issues affecting women in our community. Thousands of lives have been positively impacted by her work,” added Ellen Siler, executive director Hubbard House.   “Jacksonville is a much better place for women and girls because of her tireless advocacy.”

Shirley will be honored during the Women’s Center of Jacksonville’s “Women, Words and Wisdom” fundraiser on July 8th.
