Creating Content for the Greater Good

Elevating Positive Voices at BlogHer17Last week, I had the honor of being part of the Main Stage at #BlogHer17, the largest gathering in the country for women content creators, entrepreneurs, and industry luminaries. During a time when fake news and cyber bullying are a part of our everyday discussions and news feeds, it was nice to spend a weekend surrounded by thought leaders who were using social media to create a positive impact in this world. We can all contribute to the positive voices that elevate.

I could not have been more proud to moderate the first panel in the 13 years of BlogHer that featured athletes and we focused on the important role sports play as an inspiration to women and girls, how playing sports can influence self-esteem and future success, and how we can all use the mindset of an athlete to achieve peak performance in other areas of our lives.

A special thanks to CEO Samantha Skey and her outstanding team – in particular, Lauren and Jen, whose energetic leadership and enthusiastic vision embraced this opportunity for us all. Oh, and the panel…all-around phenom and former professional volleyball star, model, and television host, Gabrielle Reece, Rio de Janeiro Olympic gold and silver medal-winning gymnast, Laurie Hernandez, Commissioner and founder of the National Women’s Hockey League, Dani Rylan, and former professional surfer and now Commissioner of the World Surf League, Jessi Miley-Dyer. Talk about accomplished women, I was in girl crush heaven!! If you would like, you can watch the panel HERE!

Speaking of voices who elevate, Angela Strain, JASMYN’s Director of Development uses her voice to advocate for Jacksonville’s LGBTQ Youth. We had the pleasure of interviewing Angela to learn about the challenges that LGBTQ youth face and how all of us can help to promote inclusion, what a perfect way to cap off LGBTQ Pride Month!

Earlier this week, I had the chance to hear Former Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice speak so passionately about our country:

“Human beings are not perfect. Their institutions are not perfect, but they have to keep trying. And America has to help people keep trying.”

Happy Birthday America…let’s all keep trying together.
