With Gratitude and Thanksgiving

With Gratitude and ThanksgivingIt’s that time of year, my favorite time as I’m sure it is for many of you—THANKSGIVING. I can exhale knowing that the time has come to gather, relax, and reflect. It is the communal spirit of this holiday that elevates us–as a nation, as a community, and as a family. It is wonderful to be able to stop and recognize the daily miracles we often take for granted.

It’s been quite the year, and even with all of the noise, I appreciate the time to take a step back and recognize what I can control and where I can make a difference. And it is in these daily moments of reflection where I find the constant blessings of friends, thoughtful people doing great work, my family and the impact of Generation W, WOW and Works.

To the team I get to do this with, who are such special people, passionate believers in actively contributing to a better community and a better world, I am so grateful. And in this spirit of gratitude, I wanted you all to get to know the Generation W team better by having them share what they are grateful for this year and let you—our amazing Generation W community—know just how much you are all appreciated for you energize us with your words, you motivate us with your spirit, and you remind us each day that our collective voices have impact.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, I am truly grateful that together we can and do make a difference.

“Relocating to Jacksonville this year has opened my heart and mind to an incredibly wonderful community of people and opportunities. I believe the heartbeat of any city is in its people and for that I am grateful that Jacksonville is already starting to feel like home. I’ve found my tribe in Generation W! Bringing together my purpose and passion is a blessing that I am most grateful for. And, what can I say, the WOW girls inspire me to show up as the Main Magician. The girls make me believe in magic, the possibilities of a life worth living, a life that we create together.” —Atiya Abdelmalik, Executive Director of Generation WOW, The Main Magician

“Looking back over the last year, I am thankful for all the friendships and connections I have made. Each and every one of them has touched my life and my heart in a different way, for a different reason, and has helped shape me into the person that I am today. When it comes to Generation W and the oh-so-many-ways I am thankful for everyone, I am most grateful that we all come together with our different backgrounds, viewpoints and beliefs in a way that we are able to meld them together and create this wonderfully positive and uplifting experience for all those that we come in contact with.”–Tara Kelley, Forewoman of Headquarters

“I am thankful for the support of my family and friends as I relocated and started a life in Florida. And, of course, I am always thankful for my three pupsJ. I am grateful for the entire Generation W team and community–it is an honor to work with women who are strong, supportive, intellectually curious, and driven by their values.”–Christina Kostuk, Manager of Engagement & Development

“I am grateful for living in joy and good health. Blessed with a community of family and friends who create a loving and inspiring world. And in my work with the Generation W community, I am thankful for the opportunity to connect with amazing volunteers that also work to make an impact in the lives of women. Best of all, I am thankful to work with an amazing team of Generation W Women who inspire me daily.”–Pixie Larizza, People Connector

“I am forever grateful today and everyday for another day. Surviving breast cancer makes me appreciate each moment and possibility that life holds. My dear daughter, my family, my long time and new friends make me feel blessed. What an honor it is to be a part of Generation W. I am given a platform and a stage to help young girls find their exceptional voice. I meet phenomenal women from all areas of success and share in the energy of people who want to be the positive force in the world. I want to make a difference and Generation W allows me to make that pursuit a reality.”–Sherry Levin, Production Guru

“Perhaps it’s because I don’t see all of my children each and every day (2 are in college, 1 in high school), I no longer take our moments of togetherness for granted-those moments where the house is buzzing with too many loud voices and too many items strewn across the floor. I relish those moments, live deeply into them, and am grateful for all they have taught me about being intentional with my time. And when it comes to Generation W, not many people get to say that they spend each day working with people who are truly changing the world, but I do. From the women I work with on the Generation W team to the women and girls I get to talk to for website stories and social media connections, I am given a daily dose of hope for the future.”–Patti Minglin, Coordinator of Digital Content

“I am thankful for my family and the joy of spending time with them, especially my 2-year-old daughter whose hugs and kisses fuel my days. And, in the world of W, I am most grateful for the amazing team that I get to work with every day. The belief in our mission, the willingness to make it work, and the initiative to move it forward is making all the difference in the world. There is not a thing that we can’t accomplish together.”–Kasia Swierczynska, Chief Get It Done Officer
