Kathryn Pearson Peyton, MD, Founder, CEO & Chief Medical Officer, Mammosphere, Inc.
Born in San Francisco and raised in Northern California, Dr. Pearson graduated from Stanford University, followed by medical school, Radiology residency and Breast Imaging fellowship training at the University of California San Francisco, and has been a dedicated breast-imaging radiologist in a leading breast center in Jacksonville, Florida, for 13 years. She is passionate, having personally had 3 generations of her family afflicted with breast cancer, and has been a strong community advocate for breast cancer, particularly while her husband served as Mayor of Jacksonville for 8 years. In 2012, she retired from her radiology practice and founded a non-profit technology company, Mammosphere, Inc., that stores and exchanges mammograms and other breast imaging studies in the cloud. This provides immediate patient and physician access to essential prior mammograms, improving accuracy of mammogram interpretations and thereby resulting in earlier detection of breast cancer while reducing unnecessary additional imaging, follow-up, and biopsies.
Kathryn has been actively involved in the community, serving as Vice-Chair on the Board for the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, Operating Board Member of the University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute, Advisory Board Member for the Cathedral Arts Project, and member of the Women’s Giving Alliance. She also served on the Board for the American Cancer Society. In 2009, she was awarded the Girl Scouts of Gateway Council Women of Distinction honor. Her passions include: anything that involves her two young boys (ages 8 & 6), playing the violin with her Passatempo Trio, reading, yoga, snow skiing, travel with girlfriends, and quiet (finally) evenings with her husband, John, who has returned to the private sector to work for his family business, Gate Petroleum.
