Michelle began her career with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in 1992 as a Patrol Officer. She was promoted to Police Sergeant in 1999 and to Police Lieutenant in 2003. While serving as a Lieutenant Michelle facilitated the development of the Sheriff’s Office Emergency Preparedness Unit. She has been deployed on numerous mutual aid requests and has served as a member of the City of Jacksonville’s Emergency Operations Center Incident Command Team. In 2007 she became a member State’s Emergency Management team.
Director Cook took command of the Intelligence Unit in late 2006 as a Lieutenant where she managed the Unit’s active participation in the Joint, Terrorism Task Force, North Florida Fusion System Cell, North Florida Intelligence Unit and US Marshalls Office. In October 2009 Director Cook was promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief and served as the Director of the Northeast Florida Criminal Justice Training and Education Center. Her duties included managing the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Training Unit and Firing Range.
In the Fall of 2011, Michelle was moved to the Department of Patrol and Enforcement where she oversaw 150 officers and civilians in the Downtown/Springfield area, also known as Zone 1. In January 2013, Michelle was transferred to the Narcotics/Vice Unit where she commanded the undercover Narcotics and Vice Detectives.
In July 2013, Michelle was promoted to Chief of Professional Standards. She commanded the Firing Range, Training Academy, Polygraph, Recruiting, Internal Affairs, Inspections, Accreditation, Crime Analysis, Continuous Improvement, Fusion Center and our Information System Management Units.
Michelle transferred to Patrol East in January 2014 and served as the Chief of Patrol East where she commanded 3 patrol zones and 500 personnel. She also served as one of three Incident Commanders during SWAT / Negotiator call-outs.
In July 2015 Michelle was promoted to Director and has served in both Personnel and Professional Standards and Patrol and Enforcement. Currently she oversees the over 1000 officers who serve the Jacksonville community on the street and security for all special events.
Michelle has 4 kids, all of whom were adopted out of the local foster care system. She has a Master’s Degree from the University of North Florida. In her spare enjoy she enjoys running and napping.
