To live fully — to risk boldly and embrace new challenges — requires that we learn to face fear and be free of it. Fear of failure, fear of the unknown, fear of ourselves or the opinions of others — what might we accomplish if focused on what motivates us into action, not what prevents us?

Reach beyond your bubble. Be audacious. Fail forward. Let urgency conquer apprehension. At this year’s TEDxJacksonville conference, we will reject fearful and be “Fear Less.”

We have an amazing lineup for the TEDxJacksonville conference “Fear Less” at The Florida Theatre. We’ve sold out our conference each of the past four years.

Now, for the first time, eight of our 12 speakers are women. This is a truly diverse lineup of speakers, topics, experience and passions:

• Dr. Tracy Alloway, Jacksonville — Psychology professor at UNF specializing in the understanding of working memory and expert in how social media and technology affect empathy, memory and attention span
• Rick Baker, St. Petersburg — Former mayor of St. Petersburg, Fla., and nationally recognized speaker on city leadership and urban revitalization
• Gary Chartrand, Ponte Vedra Beach — Philanthropist, STEM advocate with a passion for children’s education and member of the Florida Board of Education
• Dr. Gay Culverhouse, Fernandina Beach — Former president of the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers who has become a leading national voice on the impact of brain injuries
• Cornelia Dinca, Amsterdam, The Netherlands — Expert in urban and regional planning with a passion for building smart, sustainable and livable cities
• Dane Grey, Jacksonville — African-American entrepreneur who overcame challenges as a Jamaican immigrant to build a multi-million dollar business
• Jeanine Hoff, Saint Johns — Singer who became a mental health and suicide prevention advocate; after struggling with depression and anxiety, she founded a nonprofit that focuses on positive reinforcement and education
• Sheena Koshy, Silver Springs, Maryland — Adult third-culture kid who endured a costly, 15-year path through the legal process to become a U.S. citizen
• Donna Orender, Jacksonville Beach — Former president and commissioner of the WNBA who is a highly respected leader in business innovation and CEO of Generation W
• Dr. Mark Tumeo, Jacksonville — Dean of the College of Computing, Engineering and Construction at UNF, former legislative fellow for the U.S. Senate and former risk assessment fellow for the USDA
• Dr. JeffriAnne Wilder, Jacksonville — Founding director of the Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnic Relations at UNF and sociologist specializing in diversity, race relations and gender issues
• Amber Yang, Windermere — 17-year-old astrodynamics researcher, who has been recognized by MIT and NASA among other awards and who has served as keynote speaker at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN)
