The 2016 See the Girl Summit will be held at the Jessie Ball duPont Center, 40 East Adams Street, Jacksonville, FL and begin Thursday morning, October 20, 2016 at 8:00am, adjourning Friday, October 21, at 4:30pm. This year’s summit sessions are organized by the following three tracks:

Track 1 – Girl-Centered Values in Action
This track offers workshops that explore how girl-centered values can be implemented in therapeutic responses and in programming. Looking through a double lens of relational-cultural theory and relational neuroscience, topics covered include the consequences of trauma and abuse, historic and current challenges sexual abuse survivors face through severe and constant abuse, as well as training for therapists working with survivors of human trafficking.

Track 2 – Research
The research track provides opportunities for participants to learn about current research, grounded in the lived experiences and voices of girls and young women, with a particular focus on the experiences of girls of color. Workshops will raise dialogue about the implications of these findings for teachers, counselors, therapists, juvenile justice professionals, health professionals, court staff, law enforcement, policymakers, funders, concerned citizens, researchers, and the media. Gender responsive and culturally competent models for the development of collective responses to girls will also be discussed.

Track 3 – Advocacy
These highly interactive workshops will explore what advocacy is, the role of research in advocacy, and strategies to engage girls, men, politicians and others in championing girls in the justice system. Effective strategies, messages and campaigns that have created sustainable changes in communities will be featured.
