Are You an Inspirer?
By Mary Ann Wasil
INSPIRER: To stimulate energies, ideals, or reverence: a leader who inspires by example.
My friend and shero, the great “Inspirer” and advocate for the poor, Sister Simone Campbell, says that “We must let our lives be broken open, to let our hearts be touched by other’s sufferings, and to share our own.”
In order to be humble, we must first be humbled.
In order to inspire, we must first be inspired.
I consider it a great honor to have been invited to inspire you once a month on the Generation W blog with pearls of wisdom I can assure you are gifts from the many great “Inspirers” I have been blessed to know during the course of my “one wild and precious life.”
Another “Inspirer” and friend of mine offers the disclaimer that although the “pearls aren’t mine, the string that holds them together is!”
If you are in the mood to spend a few minutes a month with a 51-year old single mother of three who is also an 11-year breast cancer survivor living with stage four metastatic disease for over four years, yet is the happiest person she knows, well, friends, you’ve come to the right place!
I am inspired by the courageous women I sit beside each week while we receive chemotherapy; I am inspired by the patient and loving parents of the special needs child I am in line behind in the grocery store; I am inspired by the smiling young man who waves me onto the highway ahead of him; I am inspired by the elderly gentleman who holds the door open for me walking into the diner; I am inspired by the Generation W women who open their hearts and their minds to be inspired by others.
It is when we are inspired that we can become an “Inspirer”… and YOU, my friend, inspire ME.
